Episode 7

Adam Scott

"Who the fuck is Adam Scott?" Well I'm sure you know about Adam Scott by now. He was on a very successful show called Parks and Recreation. Adam also was in a movie called Step Brothers. He's done numerous things in his career and he always gets the laugh. Dax sits him down and grills him on how he scored that Step Brothers gig over him. It seems likely that it was with his pure charm and wit.

What's this all about?

No matter who you are there is always a person that ends up getting something that you wanted. In this episode of Armchair Expert, Dax gets to chat with a guy who was able to score a role over him. The conversation gets interesting when Adam reveals he went for Dax’s role in Zathura. In the end both see that the roles they won truly belong to that person. Oh, this episode is also about Monica’s hot Grandmother. Run to your time machines and fire them up here!

What did they say?

  • @1:40 Side note about Monica….  Dax talks about Monica’s Grandmother for the first time. He’s firing up the time machine as this is being typed. We will hear about Monica’s Grandmother again.
  •  @7:15 “There wasn’t really a template for the Sci-Fi Action Comedy half-hour show.” Adam talks about working on the show Ghosted. The show was a challenge due to its new twist. Adam sells the show as a Midnight Run meets the Twilight Zone.
  • @19:42 “Chocolate Ice Cream and a Zippo Lighter.” Dax makes an unsuccessful attempt at an analogy using chocolate ice cream and Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups. Adam and Monica sound puzzled since those two things go great together. Leading Adam to combine the zippo with the ice cream.
  • @22:47 “You’re from Santa Cruz?” Adam details his life in Santa Cruz. Dax of course got mushrooms from Santa Cruz.
  • @29:50 “All the guys I would see in Thrasher I would see on the half pipe.” Adam talks about going to parties in Santa Cruz as a kid with pro skaters Keith Meek and Rob Roskopp
  • @41:51 “You’re a real student of Lee” Adam admired Spike Lee so much that he wanted to go to NYU. He even wore a Knicks hat and grew a goatee. It also opened up his music horizons to include hip hop acts like Public Enemy.
  • @52:33 “I shouldn’t have been a guest on the show.” Dax explains how he ended up on Letterman. Surprisingly, it has nothing to being on Punk’d and everything to do with Bonnie Hunt’s show Life with Bonnie.
  • @55:35 “You actually had to go and fend for yourself.” Dax and Adam discuss how they found their “tribes” during their teen years before the internet. Dax brings up the band The Exploited from the last episode with Pete Wentz.
  • @1:01:34 “Who the fuck is Adam Scott?” Dax recalls losing the role of Derek in Step Brothers to some guy named Adam Scott. Dax in the end loves the job Adam did (so does a whole bunch of other people) and went on to be a big fan of Adam’s work.
  • @1:04:09 “I auditioned for Zathura.” Adam tells Dax how he auditioned for the role that Dax would ultimately get.
  • @1:11:15 “He really is a lovely, regular dude.” Adam and Dax talk about how wonderful Will Ferrell is as a person.
